Foundation Djimba - Home for old, ill and handicapped dogs

Foundation Djimba has three goals:

  • to guarantee the care and home of a number of old, handicapped and/or ill dogs and cats
  • and on odd occasion take in emergency cases, of little very old dogs that otherwise will be euthanised

The name Djimba is composed of two special dogs, Djara the galga and Simba the greyhound. Djara was the first dog from Spain and our first contact with this special breed but also the suffering of the greyhound / galgo in Spain. This has lead to a deep involvement in Animal Welfare (first by starting Greyhounds Rescue Holland and later by the founding of the Animal Medical Care Foundation). Djara has been one year with us in France and died in her sleep in September 2006, she was approx 15 years old.

Simba was a very severely abused greyhound, his head was battered, he missed an eye and his jaw was crooked after it had been broken long time ago and healed without treatment. He had several bullets in his body. Simba was special, he attracted people and once you met him, you would never forget him. Djara was introvert, Simba the opposite, he was quiet but loved the attention, he spread his love for every one. In Mai 2010 after a short illness he passed away. He was propably around 16 years old.

In 2005 we moved to France so we would have more room to help dogs in need. Over 35 dogs found their forever home with Djimba. In 2016 we moved with the animals to Germany. Due to serious illness of Fred, his age and financial issues we can not take in more animals and need to cut down. So when an animal passes away no new one will be adopted.

We have never rehomed animals, every animal that came to us, stayed with us. They have often been rehomed, abandoned or mistreated so we give them their final golden basket.


For the dogs of Foundation Djimba we are looking for fosterparents and/or donations to pay for their medical bills and special food (diet).
